Social Emotional Support for Students

Guidance Small Groups and Grief Support

At Pepperhill Elementary, we believe in supporting the whole child—academically, socially, and emotionally. Our guidance small groups give students a safe and supportive space to learn important life skills such as friendship building, managing emotions, problem solving, self-control, and making positive choices. Groups are led by our school counselor Ms.Jeffcoat (marquette_jeffcoat@charleston.k12.sc.us) and are designed to help students grow in confidence and connection with others.

Our grief support groups provide comfort and understanding for students who have experienced the loss of a loved one. In these sessions, students can share feelings, learn healthy ways to cope, and find reassurance that they are not alone.

Charleston Hope

The Charleston Hope Thrive Program is a comprehensive mental and behavioral health program providing free, school-based support to K-5 students in high-poverty, Title I schools in the Charleston, SC area. Using a three-tiered approach—universal support, targeted support, and intensive support—the program offers services like trauma-informed training for staff, individual and group counseling by licensed professionals and graduate interns, enrichment programs, and art therapy to help students cope with trauma, grief, anxiety, and other challenges. The goal is to provide accessible, integrated care directly within schools, ensuring vulnerable students receive the mental health support they need to thrive.
